- A recurve bow is a bow that curve away from the archer when unstrung. Many indigenous peoples have employed the technique as their primary hunting method for thousands of years, and it has survived into contemporary use for sport and hunting.

- A longbow in its time just known as warbow in contrast to a hunting bow is a type of tall bow allowing the archer a fairly long draw. A longbow is not significantly recurved. Its limbs are relatively narrow and are circular or D-shaped in cross section. Flatbows can be just as long; the difference is that, in cross-section, a flatbow has limbs that are approximately rectangular.
